About the Job.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated, and skilled individual, to come and join the inpatient Falls Prevention Team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The overall aim of the service is to promote fall prevention strategies and to reduce patient harm from falls across the organization. The post will involve working closely with clinical teams from a wide variety of specialties.

The post holder will deliver specialist advice in reducing fall risk. This will include delivering training, undertaking patient reviews, management of clinical / liaison work and risk management, and being a key adviser for Divisional teams. In addition, you will support clinical staff with post-fall investigations.

There are excellent opportunities for Learning and Development available in the Trust and the successful applicant will be well supported and encouraged to develop in their role. You will be based at the Heartlands Hospital site, however, will be involved in cross-site working across multiple Specialties and Divisions which will provide you with valuable knowledge and experience in Trust-wide operational and strategic working.

This role is ideal for you if you enjoy helping and supporting others, are passionate about exploring and developing your ideas and innovations, and can see how these would enhance fall prevention across the Trust.

Key responsibilities;

  • The post holder must be able to work well within a team, act as a role model but also autonomously manage their workload. In addition, the post holder must be willing to work across all of University Hospital Birmingham’s four sites although your base will be at Heartlands Hospital. Therefore, good communication, interpersonal skills, and a willingness to travel and be flexible are essential for the post.
  • We are looking for people with a positive outlook and approach, and a can-do attitude to helping and supporting others. Compassion and empathy are essential, along with professionalism and having high standards of working to effectively work alongside other Corporate colleagues in delivering effective and targeted guidance and support to clinical teams. IT skills including report writing will also be necessary, along with having some previous knowledge and/or experience in falls prevention and management practices.

Requirements;

  • Registered Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • BSC / 1ST degree (health-related) or equivalent qualification/training or experience.
  • Professional knowledge acquired at degree level supplemented by specialist training, experience, and short courses to degree/masters level equivalent.
  • Recognized teaching course.
  • Post-registration qualification in (appropriate area of specialty).
  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
  • Significant experience at Band 5 Staff Nurse with evidence of passion/ enthusiasm and knowledge for areas of specialist practice.
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to the speciality.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the specialty.
  • Has understanding/experience of the principles of Safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance.
