About the Job.
Mill Lodge is a Norwich-based based 5 bedded Learning Disabilities short-stay nurse-led Respite Unit, providing specialist high-quality person-centred care for adults 18+ with a learning disability, multiple physical disabilities & additional complex healthcare needs.
The post holder will be a Registered Learning Disability Nurse or Registered Adult Nurse with the proven knowledge, skills, and clinical competencies to meet the requirements of the post, highly motivated, innovative & flexible, wanting to work as part of the team and lead shifts ensuring the patient experience is delivered in a safe, efficient and evidence-based manner. The post holder must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills both verbal & non-verbal, good problem-solving skills & a passion for working with people with multiple clinical needs.
Key responsibilities;
- As a registered nurse, you will be responsible for a group of patients in a named nurse role, using your communication skills to liaise with families, MDT, and daycare providers.
- You will work closely with all team members to maintain high standards of care whilst meeting all CQC outcomes.
- The post holder will support and teach both team members & student nurses on placement.
- To act as a named nurse for a group of patients, attending meetings, clinics, and reviews.
- To be involved in gathering and collating information and building relationships with new referrals and their families.
- You will be accountable for upholding responsibilities as required by your NMC Code of Conduct.
- You will be required to maintain a safe & clean working environment by complying with infection control policies, medicine management procedures, and health and Safety requirements, proactively raising any areas of concern.
- To deal with both emergency admission requests & changing planned admissions to meet specific requirements, including decision-making regarding admission, reallocation & discharge.
- You will be required to build and maintain family relations based on open, honest, and sensitive information sharing.
- Provide a high level of physical support to individuals with all aspects of daily care as required.
- As a member of this nurse-led residential respite service, you will work as part of the team to provide respite services to adults with learning disability and complex healthcare needs, enabling their families to have a break from their carer responsibilities.
- To assist the manager in the prudent use of resources e.g. use of bank nurses.
- To Participate/chair unit meetings including patients’ respite reviews.
- To ensure unit guidelines and Trust policies are upheld.
- In the absence of the manager, uphold all protocols and policies, including recording sickness and absences, and making arrangements as necessary to ensure the unit is adequately staffed.
