This vacancy is within our Paediatric Assessment Units at Heartlands and Good Hope, this is a fast-paced environment that sees a large number of children requiring a wide range of hospital treatment, this is a great learning environment and will allow you to gain a breadth of knowledge in the management of general pediatric patients.

Our Paediatric service is run by a friendly, dynamic, talented team of professionals; we deliver high-quality, compassionate care to the local community and beyond. We strive to provide a positive patient experience in a safe environment and we actively promote a family-centered approach to the delivery of care.

Shift patterns are 24 hours, 7 days a week, flexible working requirements will be considered.

Our children and young people’s services include Outpatients, Day Surgery/ Medical Units, Assessment Units, Inpatients, and High Dependency Unit. We also have Paediatric Emergency Departments, Neonatal Units, Community Nursing, and Clinical Nurse Specialists.

Key responsibilities;

  • As a band 5 Paediatric Nurse working in Heartlands &/or Good Hope Hospital, you will join an established multi-disciplinary team that provides care to Infants, children, and young people who are patients at UHB.
  • We promote a family-centered care approach to nursing and collaborate closely with parents, carers, and their children when planning and delivering care.
  • As a staff nurse you will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for delivering safe, compassionate, person-centered, evidence-based nursing care that respects and maintains dignity and human rights.
  • You will be responsible for the assessment of patient care needs, planning and implementing programs of care, delivering treatment, and evaluating these programs of care without direct supervision.
  • You will work by Trust Policies, Procedures, and Guidelines and adhere to the NMC Code at all times.
  • The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring, and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion recognizes and respects individual choice, and acknowledges diversity.
  • They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agencies, service users, their carers, and families.
  • We expect all of our nurses to promote a positive attitude and motivate staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally.

Requirements;

  • Registered Child Branch Nurse on the NMC Register.
  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
  • Previous/recent experience of working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months).
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
  • Experience working on my own and in a team in a healthcare environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others.
  • Willingness to become a practice supervisor/assessor to or meet Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment.
  • Understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct.
  • Understanding of preceptorship and work-based learning and assimilation of skills and knowledge.
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context.
  • Understanding / experience of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues.
