Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking Band 5/6 Senior Occupational Therapists to join their diverse team of Allied Health Professionals who work across a range of clinical specialties within acute care.

The post holders will primarily be employed at Hull Royal Infirmary working within the Stroke ( Neurology) specialty.

Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is a large busy acute teaching hospitals which has defined links with Hull University and is itself a Major Trauma Centre. The post holders will work alongside colleagues to support the assessment or need across a range of clinical conditions which present within the Stroke (and neurology) service with varying degrees of complexity. As an occupational therapy you will have direct input into the assessment and treatment of patients, delivering evidence based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well being and optimise independent functioning as far as reasonably possible in all areas of life.

We are seeking applicants who can demonstrate a sound clinical foundation in practice at B5 and feel ready to make the step to B6 n this development post. The applicant should be able to adapt quickly to changing work environments and work well within a team. You will be expected to be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and build networks to enable appropriate partnerships with other agencies involved in patient care to both identify and address immediate and ongoing needs.

Main duties of the job

The post would suit a band 5 occupational therapists who has completed their core UK rotations and feels ready for the challenge of a senior post within this clinical specialty. This is a Band 5-6 development role and the individual will be supported to achieve set objectives to demonstrate the upskilled performance from B5 to the B6 role, please see B6 Job description.

The post holder will be self motivated and aspirational, be able to assess in an effective and timely manner within a rapid paced environment. Confidence in enabling patients in positive risk taking, personalised care, assessment of capacity, cognitive assessments, manual handling, functional assessment and knowledge of the Stroke care pathways will be enhanced and nurtured within this role

Support will be provided to enhance operational management skills and the post holders will be supported to contribute to service planning, development and teaching. As a senior occupational therapist, the post holders will aspire to be a role model for their team and pride themselves on delivering high quality care, motivating their team to do the same

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within either acute or community stroke services
  • Supervision of Staff & Students
  • Postgraduate UK Occupational Therapy experience in a variety of clinical specialities

Desirable

  • Ability to demonstrate clinical experience of working in both acute or community settings stroke services

Essential

  • Evidence of people management including staff performance and change management
  • Good working knowledge of community equipment and assistive devices including wheelchair provision
  • Able to prioritise and delegate clinical and non clinical duties to lower grade staff.
  • Ability to manage a highly complex caseload, selecting and and applying appropriate interventions from a range of modalities
  • Evidence of self development demonstrating a commitment to CPD

Desirable

  • Member of a relevant special interest group
  • Involvement in clinical audit
