About the Job.
An opportunity has arisen for four highly motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced individuals to join this well-established specialist breast care nursing service at University Hospitals of Birmingham NHS Trust. Two posts will be primarily based at Solihull Hospital. Two further posts will be primarily based at the QEHB site. All posts are full-time, but part-time/job share can be considered. Secondments may be considered if the applicant is new to the area of work.
The post holder will work with the team delivering an expert specialist service to patients diagnosed with breast cancer at all stages of diagnosis and treatment in a kind compassionate manner. With a commitment to the delivery of high-quality holistic patient care, you will play an active part in clinical practice, management of patient caseload, education, research, audit, and professional activities relating to breast cancer care.
The Breast team is committed to developing services to enhance the delivery of patient care and patient experience and you will be keen to be proactive in service developments.
The role involves working in both Surgical, Screening and Oncology clinical settings and helping to coordinate the patients’ pathway. These posts will suit someone with excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to foster effective working relationships.
Key responsibilities;
- At least 2 years of current experience at Band 5 or above in an area related to breast cancer.
- 1st Level Related Degree or working towards.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work as a key worker and as part of a team.
- Willingness to undertake additional training such as the Breast Care Nursing Course and advanced communication skills training.
Requirements;
- Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register.
- Advanced communication skills training (ACST).
- To have or work towards a related BSc qualification.
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
- Significant years post registration experience and at least 12 months at B6 or above in a defined specialty.
- Extensive experience working autonomously at a specialist level
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
- Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to the speciality.
- Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross-agency work environment.
- Experience of patient service user advocacy role.
