About the Job.

An exciting unique opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, well-motivated Band 7 Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

As a Band 7 leader, you will be supported to grow clinically and professionally to continue the delivery of our quality patient experience. You will be able to articulate your passion for the driving of the ongoing development of this service.

Working 17.5 hours weekly you will work within a well-established, collaborative CNS sub-team that covers general Head and Neck, Altered Airway, and Thyroid at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) and Birmingham Heartlands Hospital (BHH) and Skull Base at QEHB.

Key responsibilities;

  • As an integral member of the wider Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team, you display a kind, collaborative, ‘can-do’ approach to supporting the patient and their significant others on the Head and Neck pathway; from initial investigations, diagnosis, treatment plan, surgery and or oncological management.
  • You will be proactive in ensuring that the patient’s pathway is as timely and appropriate as possible.
  • You will be a key resource for both patients and colleagues, nurturing relationships with colleagues in allied wards and departments both for informal and formal teaching.
  • You will be an experienced Registered Nurse who can demonstrate autonomy within your competence.
  • You will be involved in the department’s participation in the PETNECK2 trial.

Requirements;

  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC.
  • Significant years post post-registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above in a defined or associated specialty.
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level.
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to the specialty.
  • Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programs and teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross-agency work environment.
  • Experience of patient service user advocacy role.
  • Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients/relatives/ care staff.
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the specialty.
  • Has understanding/experience of the principles of Safeguarding.
  • Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance.
  • Experience in delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator.
  • Experience in service development.
  • Awareness of current research related to the specialty.
