Key Objectives of Role

Be responsible for the delivery of excellent customer care, ensuring consistently high standards of patient experience, interaction and communication and the delivery of a high standard of clinical care.
Main Responsibilities & duties of the Role
Work as part of a team to ensure a high standard of clinical care and safety for patients within the theatre unit. This may include working as an anaesthetic, scrub or recovery practitioner, or flexibly across all disciplines. Undertake all safety checks to a high standard, documenting appropriately. Assess patient care requirements independently and act as a resource for other staff. Implement patient care and evaluate outcomes. Ensure the highest standards of infection prevention and control are carried out. Ensure that all documentation relating to patient care is within the boundaries of the national and hospital guidelines for good record keeping. Communicate effectively with other departments e.g. Sterile Services, Wards, Imaging Department to ensure effective and smooth running patient care. Ensure that policies and procedures are followed. Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times. Ensure that patients comfort, dignity and privacy are maintained at all times. Ensure that all incidents/accidents/near misses are appropriately recorded and reported. Participate in investigations and implement changes to practice. Ensure that own and practice of others is within an ethical and legal framework. Maintain responsibility for own professional development. Conduct self in a professional manner at all times and act as a role model for others. Proactively participate in capturing revenue Understand the Clinical Governance process and actively participate in all processes. Participate in implementing and evaluating nationally set standards. Work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in order to facilitate cohesive teamwork. Participate in performance reviews. Implement local and statutory Health and Safety Policies. Participate in the training and assessment of other staff and students. Assist with changes in the daily running of the department and communicate effectively with members of the MDT. Provide a comprehensive hand-over at change of shift to colleagues Recognise and deal with interpersonal issues in an effective and appropriate way.

Qualifications, professional experience skills and knowledge
Essential Registered Practitioner (RN or ODP). Post-registration clinical experience as an anaesthetic, scrub or recovery theatre practitioner in an acute hospital (NHS or independent) for a minimum of two years. Knowledge of clinical governance and its application. Practical experience of change management. Evidence of continuous professional development and its application. Enthusiastic and passionate.
Desirable Experience and qualification in teaching and assessing students. Experience of planning, organising and running the daily work load in a theatre suite, including the supervision of staff. Leadership skills. Proven ability to diffuse and solve challenging incidents.

Other Role Requirements and information
The jobholder will be working within a complex department that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once operational the majority of the working week will be spent in the Operating Theatre but the jobholder may also be required to attend meetings both within and external to the hospital. The job will also require evening, weekend and on call working. The post holder must be within 25 minutes travel time of the hospital when on call.
